The copywriter for the Staples contract division must be a highly capable B2B writer with a passion for direct marketing. As part of the Agency at Staples, you'll create highly effective business-to-business communications that establish and build upon our brand voice, generate sales and help develop our relationships with our target market (mid- to large-size companies). As a copywriter you'll be expected to gain a deep understanding of the contract business through constant contact and collaboration with the entire team -- from designers, art directors and marketers, to sales associates, service reps and delivery drivers. The many responsibilities of the copywriter require versatility and the ability to handle everything from overarching campaigns to direct mail, promotional pieces, online work (email, landing pages, mini-sites and rich media) and more. That means knowing how to dial up our brand voice when writing for more attention-getting pieces or dial it down for more straightforward white-paper-type projects. Being versatile also requires the ability to move quickly and comfortably between multiple projects. You'll lead in the development of copy for high-visibility, high-impact projects, and work closely with designers to ensure headlines and visuals work hand-in-hand to bring concepts to life. You will also get the chance to present a range of work that shows a thoughtful approach to strategy, and supports our unique and differentiated brand voice. Additionally, you'll work closely with fellow copywriters in a mentor role, providing creative leadership in developing a consistent brand voice. Ultimately you must be able to manage projects, lead teams, and work with very little supervision. Develop compelling copy that differentiates the contract brand, is right for our customers and helps to aggressively drive key initiatives. Create concepts that are extendable into campaigns and synchronize extensions across other collateral. Drive our brand image and promise by maintaining an in-depth understanding of our marketing strategy and business. This will allow the sr. copywriter to ensure that brand standards are always being met, act as a more valuable business partner to the contract team and constantly improve upon his or her own skills. Drive continuous process improvement to discover efficiencies and make recommendations within the department and at the same time improve copy capabilities. Support copywriters during peak workload periods. Provide guidance and prioritization recommendations. Train newly hired and contract copywriters. Partner with the account services to prioritize workload, identify potential capacity issues and determine strategies and solutions. Qualifications Bachelor degree required, preferably with English/Journalism focus Must have 2-5 years advertising/B2B/DM experience, 3+ years Web experience Comprehensive understanding of marketing, technology, and media Ability to work comfortably on Macintosh and PC platforms Must be motivated, hard working, highly organized, flexible during peak workload, detail oriented Must possess excellent project management, time-management and communication skills Must be professional, able to deal with stress, have a good sense of humor and urgency
